KOFI DAY OF SERVICE - 2025

Friday, September 19, 2025

25 Cities - 445 Volunteers - 1,163 Hours of Service

Volunteers made a powerful impact through a wide range of service initiatives this year:

  • In kitchens, they prepared and packaged thousands of meals for delivery.

  • At food banks, they sorted and packed boxes for seniors, kids, and families in need—while also restocking pantry shelves.

  • Other groups supported families by sorting donated children’s clothing, assembling toddler beds, delivering furniture, and assisting with grocery shopping.

  • Outdoor teams got their hands dirty mulching pathways, harvesting vegetables, removing weeds and invasive species, prepping garden beds, and collecting native plant seeds to help restore local habitats.

The 5th Annual Kofi Day of Service events took place in 25 cities across the country:

Thank you, volunteers, for lending your time, energy, and heart to serve these communities. Coming together in this way is a beautiful tribute to Kofi’s life and music — and a powerful reminder of how music can inspire us to connect, uplift, and create lasting change.

In honor of this year’s Kofi Burbridge Day of Service, we’ve partnered with Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation and their Adopt a School campaign. Together, we are raising funds to provide much-needed instruments to the music program at Riverside High School in Jacksonville, Florida, where nearly every student depends on school-owned instruments. Over 60 students are sharing just 25 instruments, and many are outdated or beyond repair.

Proceeds from the sale of a KOFI charity pin and sticker through Tedeschi Trucks Band’s online merch store will contribute to this effort, as well as direct donations.

Together, we are continuing Kofi’s music legacy by opening doors for the next generation of musicians.

Kofi Burbridge was an extraordinary artist whose generosity, talent, and spirit touched countless lives. A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, he was a passionate advocate for music education and a constant source of inspiration, both on and off the stage.

Born on September 22, 1961, Kofi passed away on February 15, 2019, due to complications from a cardiac condition. A two-time Grammy Award-winning keyboardist, flautist, composer, and arranger, he shared his musical gifts as a member of Aquarium Rescue Unit, The Derek Trucks Band, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. He was also a guiding force to his younger brother, bassist Oteil Burbridge—now a member of Dead & Company. Kofi’s legacy lives on in the music he created, the lives he touched, and the artists he inspired.
